Electric Kick Scooter(aka: e-scooter)
Brands - Models, Shipping, Warranty
Browse e-Scooter Bestsellers
eScooter Brand Websites
Electric kick scooters are getting more abundant on the web, and many websites are available to browse the various models from the eScooter brands. Unfortunately, some brands selling to different countries can have more than one website, example, a Segway Ninebot eScooter website for those buying from Canada, another website for those buying from USA, and yet another for those buying from Europe. And, then there are other eScooter brands that simply sell internationally from one website(to Canada, USA, and Europe), no matter if their locale is USA, Canada, or Europe. On this page we attempt to decipher the different brands by country, including those that sell worldwide from just one website. And, we also included the shipping policy and warranty info for the brands shown.
Retail Websites
Just to note, that many of these eScooter brand models can also be purchased from the large online retailers like Amazon.ca, Bestbuy and Walmart. However, when buying from a website other than the brands, any warranty issues usually must be dealt with at the point of sale and not at the eScooter brand website. So, if for example, you buy your eScooter from Walmart; then that is where you take your warranty issues, to the merchant who you bought the escooter from. And, there may be exceptions to this, so do ask about warranty guidelines when purchasing your new eScooter.
State, Province, City: Specific ByLaws & Local Ordinances
If you haven't already, you should familarize yourself with your local city bylaws(Canada) or local ordinances(USA) before deciding on your new eScooter. To quickly recap, eScooter laws usually get mandated at State or Provincial level, then are passed on to each municipality(city) where the city can accept them as they are or make amendments to better suit their particular demographic and city infrastructure.
Generally, eScooter laws detail things like where you can ride your eScooter(bike lanes, road, trails), speeds at which to ride(15mph-25mph), parking zones(curbside, bicycle racks), and, keeping safe tips like wearing a helmet no matter your age. Additionally, they usually mandate things about the eScooter itself; like allowable eScooter weight, and or max motor size, tire width and size, and max travel speed. The one thing that isn't stipulated is eScooter mile/km range, but most short commute and long commute eScooters have established rated ranges based on motor size and voltage.
eScooter Types
There are three basic eScooter(electric kick scooter) types: short commute, long commute, and, off road.
Most low to mid priced escooters are in the short commute category. eScooters with longer travel ranges are noted as long commute eScooters, usually costing more than the short commute eScooters. And, off road eScooters are a completely unique type as they have usually a much fatter or bigger tire, larger body size and weight, with much larger motors, allowing them to navigate off road terrain. Most all city eScooter laws in Canada, do NOT permit off-road eScooters to ride within city street boundries. Most cities do allow for the short commute, and long commute eScooter types; again, with max motor size and/or max eScooter weight being the deciding factor.
Don't Scoot The Law: Get Informed
There isn't too many cities now that don't have some sort of eScooter law in place, and, some cities have banned city eScooter travel altogether, although it may be reconsidered in the future. And, some cities allow eScooter rentals, but not eScooter ownership, unless of course, you want to only scoot around in your own backyard. At this time, there are as many variances of eScooter city laws, as there are eScooter laws. So, do take to time to read your local eScooter laws before buying your new eScooter. The laws are designed to keep you and everyone around you safe, so we can all enjoy the eScooter experience!
Select Your Model: Scoot Safely
Browse our
eScooter laws, page; if your city is not yet added; simply do a search online for 'eScooter laws', with your city name. Many of the well known eScooter websites are now adding eScooter city law guides also, making it easy for first time buyers to select the best model based on their city implemented laws.
Do Note: City, State, and Province Laws for eScooter riding are still being occasionally updated, as many of them have been added on a 'pilot program' basis, so use online info as a general guide only; and check with your local city offices for the most current eScooter law news.
Canada, USA
Motor Size Allowed Canada
In Canada, many of the cities have a law capping motor size on eScooters to
500watts. This is important to note when buying your new eScooter. A motor has a
rated capacity, and a
max rating capacity(aka peak rating). At escooter websites, the rated number is usually given, as this specifies the power of the escooter most of the time, with assumed riding conditions - like flat paved roads, average body weight, minimal hills.
Max Motor Rating
The max or peak rating, is mostly considered for ride conditions like - lots of hills or uneven terrain. These are situations where at times the motor must work overtime, and for that, the max or peak rating is given.
So, if an escooter website lists an escooter with a 300w rating, and a 500w max(peak) rating, then you know the escooter has 500w of power to get you up those hills. Another thing to watch is the
ah rating, the larger this is, the more power for hills also, and the motor overall. Common on short commute escooters is - 36v with 7 to 7.8ah, on a 300w to 500w motor. Long commute escooters can have larger voltage and ah, like 42v with 10ah. As the voltage number gets bigger, often does the ah, and this means the escooter can travel more distance, and overall has more power, especially for those hills.
Let's assume another escooter scenario; an escooter with a 300w rated, and 500w max motor, but the ah is 5ah. Here the escooter probably can carry the average size person without issue, and can take on some small infrequent hills, but if we change the condition to a person who weights above the average weight, and has to travel several hills everyday, then this escooter with the 5ah, is not going to be as efficient as one with say the 8ah or 7.8ah, with the 300w rated/500w max motor.
Dual Motor Electric Kick Scooters
Additionally, in consideration of city bylaws; if an escooter has dual motors each at 500w, with a total of 1000w, that is considered a 1000w motor. And, assuming you can have one motor engaged and one turned off, this escooter would still be considered a 1000w motor escooter.
Rider Weight
Another consideration is eScooter weight and your own weight. Most short and some long commute eScooter are rated to carry 100kg or 220 lbs of body weight. And, some are rated to 120kg(264lbs) and 150kg(330lbs). Do select a model appropriate for your own weight, otherwise, you will lose distance on your rated battery. And, if you have to travel a lots of hills, and your close to the rated weight rating, consider going for the next weight class, as hills, and weight, can also lower the rated battery distance for the eScooter.
USA - Driver License
In USA, many states(cities) require that you have a drivers license to operate an eScooter.
In USA, their laws are a tad more liberal when it comes to max motor size on eScooters, with many States allowing larger than 500watts, some to 750watts, and some states more than 750watts is allowed. Some cities and states in USA, also have capped eScooter weight to 100lbs or less. This usually means a eScooter with a fair sized motor, but remember, you may have to carry your eScooter, so a larger size may not be the best for portability.
Buy Your eScooter Based on Your Lifestyle
Ultimately, your buying decision is about law, portability, and convenience. If you only need to commute a short distance each day, with few hills, then a short commute eScooter may be the best selection. However, if your commute has lots of hills or lots of hills and more distance, then perhaps a long commute eScooter is best. A short commute eScooter can be rated up to 10-12 miles, or less, while a long commute eScooter can be rated for 10-12 miles or greater usually. And, the eScooter weight is important too, especially if you plan on carrying your eScooter any distance; up stairs, onto a bus, or simply lifting it into the trunk of your vehicle. Small eScooters can weigh less than 30lbs, and some 25lbs or less; with some of these lightweights able to carry up to 264lb(120kg) of body weight. This is great for portability and convenience.
Brand Model Selection
Almost all the brands shown on this page have a good variety of models, usually covering short commuter to long commuter eScooter types, and many also sell the off-road types. The brands we've selected to show here are mostly in line with Canadian and American e-scooter municipal laws. However, e-scooter laws are still being revised from time to time, so do check your city's most up-to-date bylaw before making your e-scooter purchase.
All these
e-Scooter Brands are well established. Some of them ship for
Free within USA or within Canada. And, a few ship from USA to Canada, and others from Europe to Canada for free. Free is really good, but if it ships from Europe to Canada there could be 'duty and taxes' added at Canada, which you would have to pay unless the Seller has specified that they will pay for it or Duty has already been prepaid. If you live in Canada or USA, and you want to purchase online from Europe, make sure you ask if duty is prepaid or included in the purchase price. And, the same goes for European customers wanting to make their purchase from USA or Canada.
If you find an e-Scooter you like, but it's shipping from overseas, another alternative is to search and see if its available at Amazon.ca. Amazon usually ships for free(for eScooters) to Canadian customers from the Amazon.ca website. USA buyers can do the same at Amazon.com.
Warranty and
Shipping info is also available for the brands shown here. If an e-Scooter brand ships internationally from one website, then Warranty and Shipping is designated with 'International'. Otherwise, we included the Canadian and USA websites for each brand where applicable.

Great Models for: Canadians or Americans Buying Their First eScooter
$FYI: Some of the Brand websites often promote and list their newest models, sometimes without showcasing the previous years' models. However, these older models are at times still available to purchase at online big retailers like: Amazon, Bestbuy, AliExpress, Temu, Klarna, and others. At brand websites, you can usually still find model manuals, and How To Guides, for the older models. Just browse their links for support or self repair tutorials.
So, looking at the escooter brand names and models we list on this page; if a particular model is not listed at an escooter brand website, you can check the online retailers we mentioned, because they are likely still available to buy. Additionally, most common escooter parts and accessories are stocked at some brand websites. Amazon, AliExpress, Temu, and BestBuy, all have a very good selection of escooter components. Lastly, do ask about warranty no matter where you make your escooter purchase.
